Who is Roxanne Rose?
Biography
Roxanne Rose is a queer and neurodivergent Toronto based artist currently attending OCAD university for her bachelors in Drawing and Painting, set to graduate in 2026. She grew up in Guelph, Ontario and has been obsessed with art for as long as she could hold a crayon. Drawing has alway been her favourite hobby and most crucial way of expressing herself as she finds words so often fail her. As many artists do, she grew up as an outsider and had to work extremely hard to adapt to the expected societal norms that we as the human race are so often pushed to fill. Because she had to work twice as hard as the average person, however, she developed an intense fascination in people and how they function, bringing that into her art.
With an infatuation in the surreal and strange, she has been leaning heavily into the abstract as of lately, as well as pop art for its unique social commentary. It is important to her to create art with a message, helping people to understand themselves and others a little more as she utilizes her skill in social and emotional intelligence. While drawing and painting is her medium of study, she dabbles in many other art forms such as digital, textiles, sculpture, and performance.
Some of her main influences and fascinations include marine biology and the ocean, thunderstorms, horror, gore, and the underrated art medium of puppetry. She considers these things to be the world’s most beautiful wonders and hopes to bring the feelings of them into her art in turn.
